Meryl’s Pantry

Many of our clients have asked what is in Meryl’s kitchen pantry. Well, you asked and we got it! Take a peek here:

WHAT’S YOUR FOOD PHILOSOPHY IN ONE SENTENCE?
Always use real, fresh whole food ingredients. Food should nourish and support our health.

WHAT IS ALWAYS IN YOUR FRIDGE?
Fresh fruit, ample supply of leafy greens, kefir, yogurt, hummus, eggs, cultured cottage cheese, sauerkraut, fresh feta, assorted nondairy milks including coconut, almond and flax, and fresh herbs.

SHARE YOUR 7 RECIPE STAPLES ALWAYS ON HAND.
Spices (turmeric, cumin, cayenne pepper, paprika, Italian seasoning, Borsari, sea vegetables); beans, lentils and chickpeas; oats, quinoa, brown rice; coconut milk and sundried tomatoes; a good olive oil, tamari and toasted sesame oil; maple syrup, coconut sugar, raw almonds, cashews, pecans, and walnuts. Sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower, hemp, chia and flax seeds.

MUST-HAVE MUNCHIES?
Dark chocolate (72% or higher) for melting and dipping my fruit in or simply enjoying with a cup of tea.

FAVE CONDIMENTS?
Hummus, guacamole, Labneh, whole fat kefir, raw cheese

CAN YOU SHARE YOUR GO-TO INGREDIENT THAT MAKES EVERYTHING TASTE BETTER?
Fresh herbs and spices, Borsari seasoning and flavored oils.

GO-TO PROTEINS:
Eggs, salmon, hemp, then beans/lentils/chickpeas, toasted pumpkin seeds, cultured dairy.

DO YOU HAVE A BEST BARGAIN?
Big veggie stews, crock-pot meals.

BEST LABEL-READING TIP?
Keep it to five to seven ingredients. Avoid added sugar, make sure you can pronounce what’s in it. If you can’t your body won’t know what to do with it.

YOUR ONE FAVE VEGGIE + WHAT YOU MAKE WITH IT?
It’s a toss-up between sautéed Kale and my roasted (my kids call it burnt) Broccoli.

DO YOU HAVE A GUILTY “SWEET” PLEASURE OR INDULGENCE?
Truth be told I love ice cream, but don’t indulge in it often. My second love is cookies and my daughter’s recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies always hits the spot.

FAVORITE SPLURGE?
Any type of kitchen gadget I am a sucker for them and they can make some tasks simple, fun and easy!!

FOR LAST-MINUTE ENTERTAINING?
My garlic-dill crispy salmon with Parmesan crusted cauliflower is always a hit. Both recipes are on our website.

FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP?
My go to is Whole Foods, though I would so love to find a quaint farmers market. One of the things I miss the most from living in NJ. I do love our new local, craft yogurt café place called AROA. Hands down the best (and healthiest) yogurt and salads around.

YOU NEED SOMETHING FAST? WHAT’S YOUR SIMPLE GO-TO RECIPE?
Farro and vegetable bowl or home-made veggie sandwiches on crisp Sourdough rolls.
